Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Harry Potter books have always been a big hit with me. So, when I laid my hands on ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’ I was thrilled. I can truly say that this is my favorite book. I love Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire so much that I read it in every second of spare time I had, even at school! Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is the fourth book in the Harry Potter series. The author of this book is J.K. Rowling. It was published in the year 2000 by Bloomsbury. The genre is fantasy. It is a very thick book and the second longest book I’ve ever read.

Harry Potter is an orphan whose parents are killed by Voldemort, a dark wizard. He is then sent to his aunt and uncle’s house, where he is not treated fairly. He realizes he is a wizard because of which he goes to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, a school of magic. It is here that he has his adventures. In this book he is back for his fourth year and Hogwarts is hosting the Triwizard Tournament, a competition between three schools Beauxbatons, Durmstrang and Hogwarts. It is a competition involving three unknown tasks. Though you have to be 17 or over to enter, someone put Harry's name in the goblet and he ends up competing. Could the whole tournament be a trap?

Children would put their names in the Goblet of fire and it would select one competitor from each school. But it choses two from Hogwarts out of which one is Harry. He has to now face the dangerous tasks in the tournament. The characters are Harry and his two best friends, Ron and Hermione, the children of all three schools, their headmasters and the staff of Hogwarts. The Goblet of fire also played an important role in the story. The villains are Voldemort and his followers, the Death eaters. The book had a lot of action scenes, which I liked.

The book is full of imagination and fantasy which I found amazing. The characters are interesting and some are funny. Some of my favourites are Hermione, Hagrid and Dobby the house-elf. I like Hermione because she is smart, but not full of herself. Hagrid is friendly, even if he is huge. He is like a father to Harry, because Harry does not have one. Dobby is funny, sometimes a little crazy, and he always wants to help. He is a good friend to Harry, Ron and Hermione.

I recommend this book for readers of age 11 (age of wizards and witches while starting Hogwarts) and those who like books about magic. After reading this book, you can read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the next book in the series. If you are new to the fantasy of wizarding world then you should read Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s stone, the first book in the series. If you have read the whole series, you can read Fantastic beasts and where to find them.

I give this book 4.5 out of 5.
